The Rejectionist made me have a vampire dream

Why had I never read The Rejectionist before? I have been missing out. Anyway, as of yesterday, I have read it. She makes the point in many posts that people often bring up vampires when they hear you’re a writer.

So last night I had a dream. I was in a class taught by a person who, in my waking life, had told me that my novel is not very good nor interesting. The class met in my elementary school, in the fourth grade pod. My assignment was an oral presentation on Interview with the Vampire. I started my presentation, and the teacher immediately stopped me and said I was beginning it wrong. He had an expression on his face that was one part exasperation and two parts amusement. I continued with a different beginning. I was using a defiant tone, but I was changing the entire essence of my presentation and watching his face as I spoke. The class was all boys except for me, and they all began to throw candy around the room. The teacher did not stop them. He seemed to be enjoying the commotion. His face kept the same expression.
